The Minneapolis Delegation of the Minnesota Home of Representatives says the Trump administration’s resolution to finish Short-term Protected Standing for Somalis is “a major departure from many years of bipartisan humanitarian coverage.”
“These choices place long-standing Minnesota residents—who’ve lived, labored, and raised households right here legally—at instant threat of dropping their lawful standing and being compelled into uncertainty,” the delegation stated in a written assertion. “TPS exists as a result of situations in designated international locations meet clear statutory requirements associated to battle and instability. Ending these protections doesn’t change the realities on the bottom overseas, but it surely does create concern, disrupt households, and destabilize communities right here at house.”
The Minneapolis Delegation added that they stand with Somali Minnesotans and all communities impacted by the termination of TPS.
“Immigrant and refugee communities are a necessary a part of Minneapolis and Minnesota,” the delegation stated. “They’re our neighbors, coworkers, healthcare employees, educators, small-business homeowners, and civic leaders. Our state is stronger due to their contributions, and we’ll proceed to advocate for insurance policies that defend the security, dignity, and stability of each group impacted by these choices.”
The Minneapolis Delegation within the Home contains Reps. Michael Howard, Fue Lee, Esther Agbaje, Sydney Jordan, Mohamud Noor, Katie Jones, Jamie Lengthy, Aisha Gomez, Anquam Mahamoud, Samantha Sencer-Mura and Emma Greenman.
