Polls have begun closing in major elections throughout the nation, as voters in states resembling Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Carolina decide their celebration’s candidates forward of the 2026 midterms.
In South Carolina, polls closed at 7 p.m. ET as Republican voters select the GOP nominee to succeed the late Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Sen. Darline Graham, R-S.C., will advance to a runoff election for the nomination, in line with the Related Press. Graham was appointed to the Senate to fill her brother’s seat for the rest of his time period, which ends in January, and was endorsed by President Donald Trump for a full time period.
Reps. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., Russell Fry, R-S.C. and former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford are competing for the second spot within the runoff.
In Minnesota and Wisconsin, polls are set to shut at 9 p.m. ET. In each states, progressive Democrats are going through off with extra reasonable Democratic candidates — an important check because the celebration’s left flank surges throughout the nation.
Progressive Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan is going through centrist Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., for the Democratic nomination for an open Senate seat in Minnesota. In Wisconsin, Democratic socialist Francesca Hong is the frontrunner to be the Democrats’ gubernatorial nominee. Incumbent Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, who’s retiring, has endorsed Milwaukee County Govt David Crowley to succeed him.
